What is hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is the term used for the
therapeutic use of hypnosis to help you lessen symptoms or change
habits, and to treat a variety of conditions. Hypnosis
is a relaxed mental and physical state, during which you are fully
aware at all times and in complete control of the process. At your
first session, we will discuss what you would like to achieve from
hypnotherapy and agree on the course of your treatment. Once
you are deeply relaxed, you will hear appropriate suggestions to your
imagination and your unconscious mind. You are likely to feel
relaxed, safe and very comfortable during a hypnosis session, but you
remain aware of your surroundings and able to stop the process at any
point if you wish.
Hypnotherapy with an ethical, qualified and
experienced therapist is entirely
different to “stage hypnosis”!
There is no danger of you being asked to do anything you are not
comfortable with and as a qualified and ethical therapist I will
never (and nor would I be able to) suggest anything to your
unconscious without your full knowledge and consent. What can hypnosis do for you?
Hypnosis Is a Powerful Tool for Inner Transformation
Our beliefs, feelings, and behaviours
operate at an unconscious level, and affect our experience of
reality, whether it be pleasant or unpleasant.
If our experience of reality is unpleasant,
or if our beliefs, feelings and behaviours don’t help us to achieve
our goals, then we may want to bring about change. But there can be a
problem with that when most of our attempts at change seem to be
short lived and fruitless. It can seem so difficult to make the
changes we desire, as if we are always pushing up hill. The
reason for this is that we attempt to make changes on a conscious
level using willpower, together with whatever motivation we can
rustle up using logic and external factors. When our willpower
runs low or our motivation drops off, we find ourselves back at
square one. Sound familiar?
The thing is, if you really want to make
those changes, you must make them at a subconscious level in order
for the changes to be effective and permanent. Also, and this
may surprise you, it is a lot easier to make those changes on a
subconscious level, than it is to use will power/temporary
Hypnosis is a bridge to your subconscious
mind that allows you to gain access to parts of yourself of which you
are not usually aware on a day to day level. Hypnosis allows
you to learn new ways of believing, thinking, feeling, and behaving
at a subconscious level. This is fantastic because all true learning
happens at a subconscious level!
So, let's take a look at some of the amazing
things that hypnosis can do
Six things you should know about Hypnotherapy
1. You can control your physiology using
Did you know that it can actually be healthy
to go into hypnosis? Studies show that your immune system actually
gets stronger under hypnosis.
2. You can manage pain with hypnosis.
Hypnosis has been used for years to manage
and relieve pain. Studies have revealed that hypnosis works by
decreasing the brain’s response to pain signals and also helps deal
with the psychological part of pain that can make pain seem even more
3. Health problems can be alleviated
Many health problems are brought about by
psychological causes. It is no secret that the way we think, feel,
and believe can have a direct effect on our health.
Additionally, there are also behaviours that result from
psychological imbalances that can have a negative effect on our
health, such as drug use, smoking, overeating, and lack of exercise.
Here are a few areas where hypnosis has been
used successfully to alleviate health problems:
* skin conditions
4. You can heal emotional problems
As I am sure you are aware, the way you
believe and think at a subconscious level will have a direct effect
on how you feel. Also, how you feel has a lot to do with how much you
enjoy life and how you behave. The way you currently believe and
think was mostly conditioned into you at a young age and has been
absorbed subconsciously. Hypnosis can be used to find the causes
behind the way you feel, to “un-learn” those old ways of
believing and thinking, and learn new, healthier, and more empowering
ways to believe and think. Here is just a very short list of
emotional problems that can be treated effectively with hypnosis:
fears and phobias
5. You can gain freedom from addictions
and unhelpful habits with hypnosis.
In very general terms, we can think of
addictive behaviours and unhelpful habits as being a result of the
emotional imbalances mentioned above, as well as the ways of thinking
and believing that are at the root of those imbalances, Of course
there is more to it than that, but this is not the place for a more
in depth explanation.
In the same way that hypnosis can help a
person deal with the emotional problems mentioned above, it can also
help deal with the addictive behaviours and bad habits that result
from them. Let us list a few addictive behaviours and bad habits that
hypnosis can help a person gain freedom from:
* abuse of non-prescription
6. Hypnosis can improve the overall
quality of your life.
All right! Now, with all emotional problems
healed and with those addictive behaviours and bad habits dealt with,
what’s next? Well, you won’t be surprised to hear that, Just as
hypnosis can help you “un-learn” those old ways of believing,
thinking, feeling, and behaving, it can also help you “re-learn”
new and better ways of believing, thinking, feeling, and behaving.
Here are a few examples of how your life can improve with hypnosis:
* motivation to exercise
healthier eating habits
fulfilment in relationships
emotional well-being and happiness
* more positive mental outlook
This just some basic information about how
hypnosis can help you improve your daily life, to give you an
overview of what hypnosis is capable of and why it works. I also
wanted to get you thinking about what hypnosis can do for you.
