What is hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is the term used for the therapeutic use of hypnosis to help you lessen symptoms or change habits, and to treat a variety of conditions.
Hypnosis is a relaxed mental and physical state, during which you are fully aware at all times and in complete control of the process.
Hypnotherapy with an ethical, qualified and experienced therapist is entirely different to “stage hypnosis”! There is no danger of you being asked to do anything you are not comfortable with and your therapist will never (and nor would they be able to) suggest anything to your unconscious without your full knowledge and consent.
With that said, let us go ahead and take a look at what hypnosis is capable of.
Hypnosis Is a Powerful Tool for Inner Transformation
Our beliefs, feelings, and behaviours operate at an unconscious level, and affect our experience of reality.
It can seem so difficult to make the changes we desire, as if we are always pushing up hill. The reason for this is that we attempt to make changes on a conscious level using willpower, together with whatever motivation we can rustle up using logic and external factors. When our willpower runs low or our motivation drops off, we find ourselves back at square one. Sound familiar?
If you really want to make those changes, you must make them at a subconscious level in order for the changes to be effective and permanent. Also, and this may surprise you, it is a lot easier to make those changes on a subconscious level, than it is to use will power/temporary motivation.
Hypnosis is a bridge to your subconscious mind that allows you to gain access to parts of yourself of which you are not usually aware on a day to day level. Hypnosis allows you to learn new ways of believing, thinking, feeling, and behaving at a subconscious level.
Now let us take a look at some of the amazing things that hypnosis can do.
1. You can control your physiology using hypnosis.
Did you know that it can actually be healthy to go into hypnosis? Studies show that your immune system actually gets stronger under hypnosis.
2. You can manage pain with hypnosis.
Hypnosis has been used for years to manage and relieve pain. Studies have revealed that hypnosis works by decreasing the brain’s response to pain signals and also helps deal with the psychological part of pain that can make pain seem even more intense.
3. Health problems can be alleviated using hypnosis.
Many health problems are brought about by psychological causes. It is no secret that the way we think, feel, and believe can have a direct effect on our health. Ever heard of psychosomatic illnesses? Additionally, there are also behaviours that result from psychological imbalances that can have a negative effect on our health, such as drug use, smoking, overeating, and lack of exercise.
4. You can heal emotional problems with hypnosis.
The way you believe and think at a subconscious level will have a direct effect on how you feel. Also, how you feel has a lot to do with how much you enjoy life and how you behave. The way you currently believe and think was mostly conditioned into you at a young age and has been absorbed subconsciously. Here is just a very short list of emotional problems that can be treated effectively with hypnosis:
* anxiety/stress/nervousness * depression * self-worth/confidence issues * anger * guilt * fears and phobias 5. You can gain freedom from addictions and unhelpful habits with hypnosis.
We can think of addictive behaviours and unhelpful habits as being a result of the emotional imbalances mentioned above, as well as the ways of thinking and believing that are at the root of those imbalances, Of course there is more to it than that, but this is not the place for a more in depth explanation. I'm always happy to answer questions, so call me to find out more!
In the same way that hypnosis can help a person deal with the emotional problems mentioned above, it can also help deal with the addictive behaviours and bad habits that result from them. Let us list a few addictive behaviours and bad habits that hypnosis can help a person gain freedom from:
* smoking * alcohol * abuse of non-prescription drugs * nail-biting * negative thinking 6. Hypnosis can improve the overall quality of your life.
With emotional problems healed and those addictive behaviours and bad habits dealt with, what’s next? Well, you won’t be surprised to hear that, Just as hypnosis can help you “un-learn” those old ways of believing, thinking, feeling, and behaving, it can also help you “re-learn” new and better ways of believing, thinking, feeling, and behaving. Here are a few examples of how your life can improve with hypnosis:
* motivation to exercise
* healthier eating habits
* increased fulfilment in relationships
* emotional well-being and happiness
* increased health
* more positive mental outlook
* confidence/assertiveness
There is a whole lot more exciting information about how hypnosis can help you improve your daily life. I just wanted to give you an overview of what hypnosis is capable of and why it works. I also wanted to get you thinking about hypnosis and what it can do for you.
